John Koozin is a bassist, educator, and composer residing in New York City. He has performed throughout the US and abroad with a goal to invoke thoughts, ideas, and unity through narrative-based compositions and playing. Koozin grew up in Houston, Texas in a musical family with a creative upbringing. He was fortunate enough to study at the esteemed HSPVA, before going to the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC on scholarship. Koozin has since performed in a wide variety of venues including The Berne Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Cezanne's (Houston), Smalls Jazz Club (NYC), Minton’s (NYC), The United Nations, blue whale (LA), Star Eyes (Japan), the Pashkevich Jazz Club (Latvia), and more.Koozin has worked with artists including Matt Wilson, Dawn Thomson, Vic Juris, Nir Felder, Steve Cardenas, Arta Jekabsone, Patrizio Buanne. Francois Rabbath, Dennis Dotson, James Francies, Jasper Dutz, Joel Ross, Sebastian Whittaker, and Adam O’ Farrill. He has performed with the Houston Symphony, The Metropole Orchestra, and the Joffrey School of Ballet.  
 
"John Koozin and the Neighborhood” is Koozin’s project as a bandleader, featuring some of his closest mentors and peers. Covering the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, Hymns, and Film Music, this group is inspired by the works of his mentors and friends, as well as his own experiences teaching and living in Sunnyside, Queens. The album, "John Koozin and the Neighborhood" released on all platforms this past February.
