“As a performer, Ms. Stravelli is a remarkable package, with an engaging voice, an
ineffable sense of swing, and a superior musical intelligence, which comes out
in her choice of songs as well as the specific interpretations thereof.” - New York Sun
Award-winning vocalist Gabrielle Stravelli takes over Saturday evenings at Birdland in December with her trademark vocal style and her trio featuring bassist Pat O’Leary and a rotation of New York’s most captivating pianists. Together, they will explore both familiar classics and lesser-known gems of the canon, highlighting a diverse repertoire that will show the Great American Songbook is for everyone.
Stravelli’s clear tone, gutsy rhythm, impeccable scat-singing and contagious joy have delighted audiences the world over; she regularly leads her quartet in performances at the country's finest jazz clubs and performing arts centers and has headlined domestic and international jazz festivals including the 2023 Delaware Water Gap COTA Jazz Festival and the 2023 Cayman Arts Festival on Grand Cayman Island. She premiered pianist Fred Hersch’s song cycle Rooms of Light and has toured the U.S. premiering Wynton Marsalis’s Abyssinian Mass. As a U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassador she has performed and taught throughout Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South America.
“Listening to the jazz singer Gabrielle Stravelli is like imbibing a potent cocktail whose flavor changes as you drain the glass….she dipped and swooped, twirling notes and phrases with a confidence and playfulness that recalled Ella Fitzgerald in her prime…” -The New York Times
