The DW Jazz Orchestra with Alex Hope Kramer
The DW Jazz Orchestra is an 18-piece big band led by saxophonist Louis Danowsky and trumpeter Sam Wolsk, two 22-year old graduates from Northwestern University’s Jazz Studies program. Inspired by bands led by Count Basie, Thad Jones, and Christian McBride among others, the band formed as an outlet for the duo’s compositions and arrangements in 2016. They released their debut album, Coalescence, in May 2017, featuring the original works and arrangements of Danowsky and Wolsk. The ensemble has since performed several times in New York and Chicago, including a debut at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, where they recorded their second album, Live At Dizzy’s, released in December 2018. The ensemble has featured some of the brightest young jazz musicians and professionals from New York, including Benny Benack III, Julian Lee, and Julius Rodriguez. This time around it will feature a powerful lineup of New York jazz musicians including vocalist Alex Hope Kramer.
