The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that Tony winner Katrina Lenk will join forces with her friend and former cast member from The Band’s Visit, George Abud in a one-night only concert called “Swung.” The performance will take place on Monday, March 4 at 7pm.

In a celebration of their musical friendship, Broadway pals George Abud and Katrina Lenk meld together an evening of smoky jazz and swinging bebop. Exploring the music of the heart, they will dive into sizzling and lush tunes from the likes of Nina Simone, Thelonius Monk, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Rosemary Clooney. Together with a 5-piece band under musical direction by Andrei Strizek, with James Abud on guitar, Alexandra Eckhardt on bass, Sam Sadigursky on reeds and Allison Miller on drums, this will be a dreamy, madcap soirée of talk and tunes.

Katrina Lenk is an actor, singer, violist, dancer and songwriter. She has had the good fortune to be in five Broadway shows so far: The Miracle Worker, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark (Arachne), Once the Musical (Reza), Indecent (Manke), and currently The Band’s Visit (Dina) for which she won a Tony Award, as well as Lucille Lortel and Clarence Derwent Awards during its Off-Broadway run. TV/Film work includes “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “The Good Fight”, “The Village”, and Beautiful Darkness. She has played in several bands: Mabel Mabel (Chicago), Reyna Larson and the Whereabouts (LA), Dave Ramont, Carousel Beach, and created her own theatrical pop performance art band moxy phinx, a song of which was featured on the TV show “The Exorcist.” She met George Abud three years ago, when she joined the off-Broadway production of The Band's Visit, and for some reason he is still friends with her. They have made music and wreaked havoc in many places, Jordan, the Negev Desert, Midtown, Miami, D.C., Midtown...and she is thrilled he has stuck around.

George Abud is an Arab-American actor who will next star as Lewis Chapman in the Pre-Broadway world premiere of August Rush at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Illinois. On Broadway, he has originated roles in Kander & Ebb’s The Visit starring Chita Rivera and Roger Rees, and The Band’s Visit starring Katrina Lenk and Tony Shalhoub. Off-Broadway he has performed opposite Raúl Esparza in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, F. Murray Abraham in Nathan The Wise, Gabriel Ebert in Peer Gynt, and in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Allegro directed by John Doyle; as well as the Atlantic Theater Company’s production of The Band’s Visit. George is also a lifelong musician specializing in Arabic and Jazz. His Arabic re-arrangement of “Children and Art” for Oud was selected to be played for Stephen Sondheim in a celebration at City Center. He is thrilled to finally be making a show with one of his dearest, favorite friends and artist, Katrina Lenk, celebrating all the fun they’ve had and music they’ve made over the last few years.
