Billy Stritch
Wednesday, October 17 at 7pm and 9:45pm

Longtime Birdland favorite Billy Stritch brings his solo show to the Birdland Theater for two performances only at 7:00 and 9:45. “Autumn In The City” will include songs from Billy’s previous two shows as well as some Autumn-centric selections chosen especially for this evening. He’ll be joined by Tom Hubbard on bass and Ray Marchica on drums.

Billy is one of Birdland’s most frequent performers, having performed most recently at the legendary club with Marilyn Maye, Max Von Essen, and Natalie Douglas and later this year he will perform in the 9th annual edition of “A Swinging Birdland Christmas” with Jim Caruso and Klea Blackhurst. He can also seen every Monday night as the musical director for Jim Caruso’s Cast Party, the long-running open mic night, now in its 17th year at the club.

Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scenes. He began his career in Houston, Texas, where he formed the vocal trio Montgomery, Plant and Stritch. The trio performed all over New York and Europe from 1983 until they disbanded in 1990. A chance meeting with Liza Minnelli in March of 1991 resulted in her asking him to create vocal arrangements for the record-breaking extravaganza “Liza Stepping Out at Radio City Music Hall”. In addition to his 25-year collaboration with Liza, Billy has served as musical director for Marilyn Maye, Christine Ebersole, Lillias White and Linda Lavin and he recently completed a year on the road as pianist for the legendary Tony Bennett. He performed on Broadway in the 2001 revival of “42nd Street” and in the off-Broadway revue “The Best Is Yet To Come - The Music of Cy Coleman”. A solo entertainer in his own right, he has performed his own shows (including tributes to Mel Tormé and Cy Coleman) in concert halls and nightclubs across the country and in the UK. Along with his co-writer Sandy Knox, he composed the number one hit country song “Does He Love You”, recorded by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis (Grammy Award, CMA and ACM nominations). When he's not on the road, he is the pianist for Jim Caruso's Cast Party open mic variety show every Monday at Birdland, and he and Jim hold forth weekly at Bemelmans Bar in Manhattan's fabled Carlyle Hotel.
