Birdland is proud to welcome back Guitarist Alex Frondelli to the stage.
He will be joined by incredible Pianist Haeun Joo in her Birdland Debut!

Haeun Joo, a jazz pianist, singer, and composer from Busan, Korea. She majored in classical composition at Busan Art High school and she went to Howon University to study jazz. She moved to the U.S. in 2011 to attend Berklee College of Music, where she attended the Global Jazz Institute and received her BFA.She moved to New York in 2016 to get her M.M. in jazz studies from SUNY Purchase.

She has studied with Danilo Perez, George Garzone, Joanne Brackeen, Vadim Neselovskyi, Todd Coolman, Jon Faddis, and David Hazeltine among others. She has shared stage with Dick Oatts, Mike LeDonne at Blue Note and Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola with The Purchase Jazz Orchestra.

In her music, Haeun Joo explores music through complex harmony that develops and evolves melodically and logically in through composed forms. She will release her first album as a leader in April 2019.

Alex Frondelli is a guitarist from Long Island, New York. He began playing guitar at the age of ten and began to pursue music seriously in high school once joining marching band. Under the direction of music educator Bill Katz and world class guitarist Steve Salerno, he grew to love Jazz music and made it his main focus. Upon entering the SUNY Purchase Conservatory, his teachers have included Vic Juris, Jon Faddis, John Riley, Ralph Lalama and Gary Smulyan. His playing has been influenced by John Coltrane, Ambrose Akinmusire, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Woody Shaw, and most of all the high energy of the New York jazz scene. Alex strives to maintain his own musical voice and maintain taste, while still supporting the other musicians around him. Alex has performed as a leader at clubs such as Birdland, Smalls, ShapeShifter Lab, and has performed at the Johnson City Jazz Festival in Tennessee.
