Harkness-Herriott Duo
Harkness-Herriott Duo
Birdland Jazz reprises an evening with the Harkness-Herriott Duo - for one night only! The MAC Award winning collaboration of Canadian flugel horn master Mike Herriott and guitarist Sean Harkness just performed at the TD Toronto Jazz Festival, and now return to New York to share their rhythmelodic compositions and original arrangements of their favorite tunes.

"You can cut the chemistry with a knife. These two musicians have a great time. You will too - it is contagious.” -Ryan Prestone, JAZZ INSIDE NEW YORK

“Elegant sounds abound...an ongoing, alert dialogue of musical opinion. Excellent chamber jazz.” -Geoff Chapman, theWholeNote.com

“A zesty, upbeat combo that works well throughout...the results really work.”
- Chris Spector, Editor and Publisher, Midwest Record

“A musical rapport that pushes each along as they weave a tapestry of infectious melody.” -Arkivmusic.com

"Mike Herriott and Sean Harkness cleverly use their friendship as an additional instrument in their recording Flights. It's a perfect musical pairing like Cabernet and steak that you can taste for yourself.” - Tim Tamashiro, CBC

~ There will be signed copies for sale of their 2 CDs: the critically acclaimed, #1 jazz radio CD “Flights Vol. 1”, and the MAC Award winning holiday CD “Home For The Holidays” ~

“It’s not just that both play with taste and distinction, but they are respectful... They play with overlapping lines and phrases, answering each other or staying in a unison approach, to make it all feel right...and then branch out with new growth but not losing the thread. While the interactive work is compelling, solo times never 'time out' on the interest scale.” -Rob Lester, TalkinBroadway.com

Sean Harkness, a jazz guitarist, is best known for his incredible technique and virtuosic playing. Starting at the early age of eleven, Harkness soon had a weekly theater engagement in Bridgeport, CT months after first picking up his instrument. After high school bands and studies with Brian Keane and Sal Salvador [Stan Kenton Band], Harkness studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. After hearing Sean perform, Randall B. Plourde invited him to study guitar technique. Randall helped Harkness develop a signature touch on the instrument that caught the ears of Windham Hill Records and other producers. At home in New York City, Harkness most recently garnered the Outstanding Instrumentalist of 2011 Backstage Bistro Award, then two MAC Awards [Manhattan Association of Clubs and Cabarets] for his solo shows and most recent CD with duo partner, Canadian trumpeter, Mike Herriot. Harkness has been featured Walden Guitars’ cover of their 2011 and 2012 catalogs and the Cabaret Scenes Magazine. Jazz Inside New York proclaims Harkness as, “…a technical virtuoso whose Joe Pass/Tommy Emmanuel fingerstyle approach is always in service to telling a story or creating a feeling within the song; [Harkness] transcends many genres and can touch listeners of many backgrounds.”
