The Broadway at Birdland concert series is excited to announce that there will be A Sophisticated Reunion on Monday, July 7 at 7pm. Broadway’s 1981 SophisticatedLadies co-stars Valarie Pettiford, Terri Klausner, and Ty Stephens will bring swinging tunes, unmatched style and elements of their individual acts to the evening of music celebrating Duke Ellington. Songs like “Take The A Train,” “Hit Me With A Hot Note,” and “I Love You Madly” will be included in the concert, which will be under the musical direction of Ron Abel.

Terri Klausner starred on Broadway in A Chorus Line, Sophisticated Ladies and as Eva Peron in Evita. Her Off-Broadway credits include Goblin Market, Bed & Sofa, Lies and Legends, New Tunes, The Cole Porter Review and Oh! Coward!, garnering two Drama Desk Award nominations, a New York Drama League Award and an Obie Award. She has nominations from the National Academy of Concerts and Cabaret Arts and received the Bistro Award for her performance in This Life; The Songs of Portia Nelson. She has performed numerous times at Carnegie Hall and at the White House, and has appeared at the 92nd St Y in their Lyrics and Lyricists Series and in the Celebrity Series, “What Makes It Great? The Songs of Stephen Sondheim.” Mostrecently, she worked with Maurice Hines in the York Theatre’s Off-Broadway lab production of Maxie’s. For ten years Terri has directed the Musical Theatre Program at Coupe’ Theatre Studio in NewYork where she has mentored the talents and ambitions of students who are the next generation of professional performers. She also invited Coupé's Musical Theatre Performance Ensemble to perform with her at Carnegie Hall and the New World Stages in NYC. She performed and was the Vocal Coach in 2007-08 at Jacob's Pillow in their Jazz/Musical Theatre Program. Her dedication to passing the torch to the next generation lead her to creating “The Ellington Project” for the Arts in Ed Program for the Rockland Youth Dance Ensemble, funded through a grant from the Arts Council of Rockland in 2008 and 2010. Terri, along with other members of the original cast of Sophisticated Ladies performed at Birdland in NYC with the Duke Ellington Orchestra for the 30th Anniversary of the show. She has done extensive voice-over work and is one of the main vocalists on Steve Marzullo’s CDs, “Show Some Beauty” and “Kiss Me While We Have the Chance.”

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa., Ty Stephens is an award-winning singer/songwriter and recording artist (Grand Prize Winner Jazzmobile/Anheuser-Busch Solo JazzVocalist Competition, NYC, 2006, and First Place Winner R&B/Blues Category of the International Songwriting Competition 2002, for "Somethin’ Strange"), co-writer and original cast of From My Hometown, co- writer/choreographer and star of the long-running Shades Of Harlem revue, and the new off-Broadway hit On Kentucky Avenue (Songbirds UnlimitedProductions/Step Forward Entertainment); appeared on Broadway in the original productions of Sophisticated Ladies and Marilyn, An American Fable. Among many recordings, he is Guest Vocalist, alongside sax legend Houston Person, on a jazz disc from bassist Jon Burr, "Just Can’t Wait.” Ty joined with vocalists from Broadway's The Lion King to sing on the recording of the Soundtrack for the World Cup. He has performed/appeared with: Harry Belafonte, Gregory Hines, Phyllis Hyman, Toshi Kubota, Patti Austin, Jeffrey Osborne, Phoebe Snow, Smokey Robinson, Jon Hendricks; at Carnegie Hall with Liza Minnelli; Natalie Cole, Ledisi, Savion Glover, and appears regularly in Russia as Guest Artist with Russian drummer Oleg Butman's jazz trio and sax great Igor Butman's Big Band; and celebrated his 5th tour of Japan with superstar Toshi Kubota's 25 Anniversary "Gold Skool" tour 2011-2012. With his band, SoulJaazz, Ty has spent six Seasons at the world-famous SportingClub in Monte Carlo as the Sporting Orchestra (opening for Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennett, JanetJackson, Carlos Santana, SteelyDan, Alicia Keys, and Celine Dion) and just enjoyed his 4th tour of eastern Russia through the US State Department and The Vladivostok Philharmonic. Ty's original recordings include "Aquarian Mind,”"Deeper In Fantasy" and"Musichameleon,” and the band is currently in the studio completing the 4th release "Feels So Good" and a pending Standard Jazz CD.

Valarie Pettiford has illuminated stage, screen and television as one of the finest actress/dancer/singers today. She recently wrapped a 2-scripted feature film as Charlene Wilson, in Carl Weber’s screenplays “Preacher’s Son” and “Choir Director.” She is always thrilled to be back on HBO inthe recurring role as Mary Wright in the hit series “True Blood.” She also recurred on the critically acclaimed “Treme,” and was cast as a series regular, by JJ Abrams in the pilot “Hope Against Hope.” Highlights in her TV and film career have been; three-time NAACP nominee for her portrayal as Big Dee Dee Thorne in the hit series “Half & Half” and her role as Aunt Geneva in the Sony picture film “Jumping the Broom.” Other notable credits include; “Golden Boy,” “Bun Heads,” “Hart of Dixie,” “Love That Girl,”“Stomp The Yard,” “Love Will Keep Us Together,” “Criminal Minds,” “CSI”(original and Miami), “House of Payne,” “Why Did I Get Married 2,” “The Finder,” “Frasier,” “The District,” “The West Wing,” “X Files,” “Glitter,” “The Cotton Club,” “The Wiz Movie,” and the 2002 Kennedy Center Honors performing“All That Jazz” honoring Chita Rivera. On Broadway she was nominated a Tony Award, as well as the Outer Critics, and Dora Mavor Moore awards and recognition by The Drama League as ‘Best Featured Performer’ in the Tony Award winning Musical Fosse. Other Stage credits include Chicago in London’s West Endas ‘Velma’ opposite the legendary Chita Rivera, and as “Queenie” in The Wild Party, for which she won the NAACP Theater and Garland Awards for Best Actress In A Play and Ovation Nomination. She performed as “Aunt Em”and “Glinda” in Des McAnuff’s production of The Wiz, as “Julie” in Showboat(NAACP, LA’s Robby and The Vancouver Sun Reader’s Choice Awards), Bob Fosse’s Dancin’, Big Deal and Grind. She was in the original cast of Sophisticated Ladies as Judith Jamison’s understudy, and in Babalu: A Tribute To Dezi Arnaz in NYC and Miami. Valarie was guest artist with The Pasadena Symphony/Pops conducted by Rachel Worby. Her widely successful one-woman shows have performed to sold out audiences throughout the US including The Cabaret in Columbia Club, IN., The Invisible Theater in AZ; Goldie Award Winner. Pepperdine University’s Smothers Theatre, The Gardenia Room, The El Portal Theater, Upright Cabaret, Rockwell Table And Stage, The Rrazz Room in SF. Birdland and The Metropolitan Room in NYC garnering her a 2007 Backstage Bistro Award.
