Charnett Moffett "The Bridge" Motema Records Solo Bass CD Release Celebration
The virtuoso bassist Charnett Moffett will release his first solo bass CD, The Bridge (Solo Bass Works) on April 9, 2013, on the multi-Grammy-nominated Motéma label in
their 10th anniversary year. He will celebrate The Bridge with Moffett Meets Manhattan: A Bassathon, an unprecedented series of solo live performances throughout New York City.

The Bridge is one of a very limited number of solo acoustic bass discs ever recorded, and is an astounding project in musical range and sound. It features 20 dynamic tracks that will delight all fans of music. The recording showcases Charnett’s uncanny ability to play melody and harmony while evoking sound that sometimes is like a trumpet, a sitar or a band - and is always real music. The thoughtful musical selections reflect his entire 30-year-plus career and showcase his compositional excellence in addition to his great interpretative ability with jazz standards such as “Nature Boy” and “Caravan” and pop standards by The Beatles, Sting and Adele. Additional selections represent pivotal influences such as Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner and Tony Williams. Charnett contributes eight compelling originals, including the electric-leaning “Free Your Mind,” which closes the remarkable disc – his 12th as a leader.

Bio:

Appearing on over 200 recordings, Charnett Moffett is a veritable bass legend and has one of the most distinguished careers in jazz. Charnett's father Charles was a drummer with Ornette Coleman, and so Charnett was always around jazz royalty. In fact, his name is a tribute to both men. He first appeared on a recording at age seven with the Moffett Family Band. Then at age 16 he left Juilliard to join the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, before starting his non-stop career working with innumerable icons of music including Art Blakey, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, Tony Williams, Dizzy Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Dianne Reeves, Arturo Sandoval, Anita Baker, Stanley Jordan, Harry Connick Jr., David Sanborn, Branford Marsalis and Bette Midler. Most recently he's been touring with vocal sensation Melody Gardot. Charnett recorded three CDs for the esteemed Blue Note label and six others on various labels before his path led him to Motéma. Whether as the leader or in a supportive role, his intense and energetic solos inspire audience ovations around the world.
