Lorin Cohen
A thrill to watch and sublime to hear, Lorin Cohen has distinguished himself as one of the most exciting and dynamic musicians on the scene today. His imaginative, joyous and singular work as a bassist and composer has resonated with audiences throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean.

Originally from Chicago, Cohen has shared the stage and his talents with numerous jazz luminaries, including: Monty Alexander (with whom he toured and recorded for seven years) Joe Locke, Geoffrey Keezer, Victor Lewis, Stefon Harris, Michael Weiss, Houston Person, Bucky Pizzarelli, Cyrille Aimee, Jon Davis, Jeremy Pelt, Jim Ridl, Paul Bollenback, Roni Ben-Hur, and Clarence Penn.

In 2015, Cohen released “HOME” on Origin Records. It reflects the light of Cohen’s childhood home, family, his and the Greater Antilles.

This critically acclaimed album of all original compositions showcases an utterly unique front line of vibraphone, steel pan and harmonica and features a stellar international group of players: Legendary NYC vibraphonist Joe Locke, the virtuoso steel pannist from the Virgin islands Victor Provost, French harmonica rising star Yvonnick Prene, Chicago pianist Ryan Cohan, veteran NYC drummer Donald Edwards and Colombian percussionist Samuel Torres.

Cohen’s musical experiences are not limited to the world of Jazz. Equally adept on the bass guitar, he has been a substitute bassist for the Chicago run of the Tony award winning musical Jersey Boys from 2008-10 and for the Broadway production of Motown: The Musical. His thumping bass guitar grooves, original songs and production drive the R&B/Jazz/Hip-hop band Vertikal.

"A talented musician with radar ears and immense natural ability. And now with his new album, we are introduced to Lorin Cohen, the excellent band leader and brilliant composer-compositions that keep you on the edge of your seat, as well as make you smile and also sooth your soul. His exciting wizard-like solos as well as those of his colleagues, are a marvel. This album is varied and entertaining, and very intelligent. The fact that he chose to marry the sounds of harmonica, steel drums and vibraphone for his front line makes this album like nothing else you've ever heard before--a colorful palette of sweet sounds"-
